Community Relations Intern (Johnstown)

Location: Richland Campus

Full or Part Time: Part Time

Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week.

Schedule: Flexible hours including infrequent but pre-planned evening hours.

Salary/Wage: $10 per hour.

Job Scope

The Community Relations Intern provides key opportunities and experiences in the functions of the College’s Foundation, Communications area, and other departments. A pivotal understanding of their relationships to one another and to the institution fosters community relations, fundraising, communications, donations, and donor relations.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  1. Help with College and Foundation event planning and fundraising.
  2. Work during College and Foundation events including set up and tear down.
  3. Solicit auction/donated items.
  4. Conduct mailings to community members and potential donors.
  5. Cultivate and maintain good working relationships with staff, faculty, and students.
  6. Maintain student confidentiality while adhering to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.
  7. Support and adhere to College policies and guidelines.
  8. Refer and/or connect students, alumni, donors and potential donors with campus resources.
  9. Communicate effectively via email, text, phone and in person with College employees, students, Foundation members and community members.
  10. Work related to Alumni Relations (gathering stories, video, pictures etc.)
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Candidate must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in public affairs, higher education, business, marketing, communications or related discipline.

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, initiative, creativity and flexibility.
  • General comfort with public speaking.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel/mail merge, PowerPoint and other applications) including Adobe/PDF.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent sitting.
  • Must be able to talk, hear and operate a computer.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
